Our
Wednesday Bible study and prayer meeting has been a time of rich blessing for
me personally. I never came out empty from these meetings. It always has been
moment when the Lord blesses me with peace and contentment. Last night, after
talking about the faithfulness of God from Romans 3, our Russian brother Slava
made that comment that blesses us all. It was a great revelation from the Holy
Spirit. He thinks that many times, many limit themselves to only know about
Jesus without meeting him ever. It is like they are happy to come in the
upstairs of our church building to hear great sermons, and sing wonderful
worship songs about God, while all the time Jesus is downstairs waiting to meet
with them and many have never made that sacrifice to go downstairs where they
can have first touch experience with God and have an intimate relationship with
him.
How often,
our spiritual life has been always built on others ‘experience with God. We are
content to serve that God that Pastor X or evangelist Y talks so elegantly
about. We limit ourselves to hear how that Jesus is been operating miracles in
other’s life. We pray but our prayers might be exact copies of what we heard
the others saying on their prayers. Our songs have always been composed by
someone else. We cannot experience the blessing of singing a new song, a fresh
inspired song coming straight from our heart. There might even be joy to
testify on what God has done in the life of others. We do not have eyes and
heart to see and to understand God´s work in our own personal lives.
Externally,
we look just fine. We blend very easily. No one can notice any difference. We
pray and sing as loud as the others. Our hands are lifted as high as others.
Our offering is as big as and sometimes even bigger than those sitting besides
us in the Sunday service. We are exactly like any other believer in the
congregation. However, our Christianity
can be summarized only as a Sunday activity. No differences with those who are
in the world, who never take that step to accept the Lord as their savior. We
worried about everything as much as they do. We are swimming in the same
addictions and sins, and shouting to everyone that it is ok, like they do. We
love and cherish ourselves like beautiful idols set on pedestals. Oh, we are so
proud of who we are that it is impossible to tolerate any one to make any
slight remark about us. We are better than them.
Internally,
we know something has been missing the whole time. We are looking for something
that cannot be found. The thirst of something true, durable, strong is
devastating our heart. We cannot be satisfied with what the pastors and
Evangelist tell about God´s specific will for our lives. We have tried going to
China and Africa, but we are still wondering would Haiti or Afghanistan fit us
better. No possible way to fight those secrets sins. They might leave us for a
week, but they came back the next month with a vengeance. At times, we want to
shout and cry non stop for no reason. Something is missing; it feels like a
cake without the topping, a car with no engine, a bike with no tires. They
might look beautiful but they are getting us no where.
It is time
we make every effort to go downstairs and meet Jesus. Yes do not try to get
higher but lower. It is not easy but it worth it, no one as ever regret to take
that step. Surrender all, follow me and carry your cross says Jesus. It does
not sound like something you would hear from Oprah, but it is the best way to
live. In it depend our happiness, our contentment of life. The greatest joy of
all is to know the Lord. Can you imagine meeting a love one, multiply it 100x
more and you can a little idea bout meeting Jesus. Falling in love with him is
like falling in love with life and everything good, nice and excellent. Then
you will find the reason of your life, because He will be your reason of
living. You will find the song of your life, because Jesus will be your life
song. Alleluia, everyday will be testimony of great things that God has been
doing in our lives. For sure, it will not be all rosy and dory, remember there
is an enemy who will never rest until he plays all cards on the table to
destroy you, but we are convinced our God is more than able to deliver us from
all temptation and attack from the devil. And, His Holy Spirit will keep on
teaching us on all that needs to be known.
